In January 2009, the Fire Authority agreed a number of review areas that should be considered as specified in the 2009/10 - 2011/12 Integrated Risk Management Plan.
One of these reviews was that of the Fire Cover and Resilience arrangements in the rural areas, to consider a wide range of factors including community needs and operational response requirements, whether there are any alternative arrangements or methods of service delivery to meet prioritised, changed and emerging needs and communities' expectations of the Service in the medium term.
The Fire Authority reached their decision following a comprehensive, open and transparent consultation & engagement process aimed at East Sussex Fire & Rescue (ESFRS) staff, stakeholders and the public on how ESFRS provides fire and rescue cover in the districts of Lewes, Rother and Wealden.
The Policy & Resources Panel's revised recommendations were agreed in full except for one principal change.
"That the transition to the removal of all Service housing take place within the four year period from 1 April 2011 and that arrangements are made to ensure that all personnel are supported to achieve this as soon as practicably possible but at the latest by April 2015."
